About Morten Qvale
Capturing the Essence of Beauty, Form and Speed
Morten Qvale was born in Norway in 1957. From a young age, he was passionate about sports—including skiing, handball, football, and swimming—which later led to competitive kayaking. He earned both silver and bronze medals at the Norwegian National Championships.
Educated in the graphic arts industry, Qvale founded Tique, Norway’s first international fashion magazine, in 1983. Through Tique, he worked with some of the most iconic fashion photographers of the time, including Bill King, Guy Bourdin, and Terence Donovan. This exposure became his gateway into photography, and Qvale soon began to refine his own visual language—deeply inspired by the legendary Ansel Adams. Years of disciplined study and hard work behind the camera shaped his style into one defined by detail, tone, and timeless composition.
Through Tique (1983–2009), Qvale established a wide international network that led to high-profile assignments with major global clients and publications. In the early 1990s, he spent extended periods living and working in New York, further immersing himself in the international fashion and photography scenes.
In 2013, he opened his own gallery—Qvale Galleri—in central Oslo, creating a dedicated space to present his fine art photography. In 2019, he was invited to join forces with Fineart, Scandinavia’s largest gallery, where he now leads the photography program. At Fineart, Qvale has helped establish collaborations with world-renowned photographers such as Albert Watson, Patrick Demarchelier, Ellen von Unwerth, David Bailey, David Yarrow, and Terry O’Neill.
Morten Qvale’s work has been exhibited in Norway, Sweden, Monaco, and the United States, and collected by some of the world’s leading art collectors, including Jane and Marc Nathanson, the Møller Collection, Stein Erik Hagen, Ola Mæle, and the Preus Museum. With a career that spans fashion, portraiture, landscape, and automotive photography, his images are marked by elegance, depth, and an uncompromising commitment to quality.Morten Qvale.
