Elisabeth Nottoli Moscow
I photographed Elisabeth Nottoli in Red Square just two hours before Mathias Rust landed his plane there—an event that would soon become a worldwide sensation. At the time, everything felt completely normal, with no hint of what was about to unfold.
When the plane actually landed, I was photographing in Gorky Park. Only later did the full impact of it all become clear. Looking back, the images from earlier that day feel like they were taken on the edge of history—just before an ordinary moment turned into something extraordinary.
